Praise & Reviews for “Drum Songs”

1. Frog Dance (4:40)

An enchanting evening is set with real crickets and a night bird. The frogs, created by gourds, call each other in the night. After a festive dance to the rhythm of the forest, the frogs settle down to serious romance. The song ends with the frogs calling each other in the night again.

2. A Word to the Wise (5:51)

The woodblock taps some quick questions and the shaman drum and tambourine snap back some sharp answers. The roto toms offer a melody of advice that rings true. The djembe improvises with its own words of wisdom. Sacred chimes inspire us with a touch of the divine.

3. Exotica (4:51)
Where is the land of Exotica? The darabuccas says it must be Arabia, but the congas and roto toms lead us elsewhere. The snare drum solos and high hat make Exotica sound close to home. When the Turkish cymbals ring we realize Exotica is truly a state of mind.

4. Drummers’ Nocturne (7:09)

Dreamy thoughts of evening prevail as red-winged blackbirds jam with other twighlight characters. Roto toms and temple blocks are featured tonight.

5. Earthtones (6:10)
Antique temple blocks and a kalimba (thumb drum( keep the colors of this song grounded in the tones of the earth. Timbales and wind chimes add the sounds of the sky to complete the painting.

6. Jungle Waltz (6:02)
Polyrythms, exotic drums, and the rattles glide the listener around the jungle floor. Welcome to a ballroom of tropical percussion sounds.

7. Slapstick (1:55)
Fast and snappy, jazzy and light. The hand slaps of the drum machine zing the song with precision.

8. Safe Than Sorry (6:50)
The djembe and bongos reveal life’s uncertainty. The drumset and conga drive the beat so there is no turning back to safety. You won’t be sorry.
